About us
A letter from us : )
Hello you!

Thank you for being interested enough in Dandeng Kulledeng (which translates to ‘protect all animals). We have a clear vision in our heads and hearts, of how we can really make a difference to the remaining wildlife of The Gambia, as well as the parks, forests and bushlands they inhabit.
Thanks to the important work we have had the privilege to do for The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust over the last 5 years, our eyes have been opened to the incredible flora and fauna around us.
However, we also see that the situation is deteriorating rather than improving at an alarming rate.
We are convinced that with the necessary financial assistance, we can make a difference here.
We aim to achieve this by collaborating primarily with the local communities, the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management, and specialised assistance from abroad.
On our website you will find a summary of our project, including who we are, what we have achieved, the problems the wildlife and forests of The Gambia face, plus our vision and goals for the future - which we really hope YOU will be a part of.
All our love, and even more hope,
Emily & Eva
Slightly feral, immensely determined

I qualified as Registered Veterinary Nurse at a mixed practice in the UK in 2019; whilst training I was lucky to gain 4 years of experience with not only companion, equine and farm animals, but also exotics including primates at a local zoo.
Later that year, I moved to The Gambia as a long term volunteer at The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust, shortly after, the global covid lockdown took place, leaving me as not only a volunteer vet nurse, but also clinical lead and centre manager for the next four years.
It was a steep learning curve as a young female, having to lead and manage a team of 50+ Gambian staff across two centres, as well as over 200 patients at any one time needing attention. Not only has this developed my project management skills, but it has also given me a deep insight in to the culture, the country and the issues that both animals and communities face.
4 years later, I am still here, the success I have had is not limited to the charity itself and the cases we see, but in this time I have also:
-
Rehabilated and released a green sea-turtle, building a support network of veterinarians and professionals across the globe who became our remote advisors
-
Sat as secretary on The Gambias Animal Ethics Commitee, raising and resolving issues such as animal transportation, laboratory testing animals and disease control
-
Invited to speak in parliament as an advisor on The Gambias updated animal welfare laws, which involved writing a paper to defend my opinions, based on my experience and knowledge
-
Built an ongoing relationship with The Gambia’s Department of Parks and Wildlife to offer training for their staff, improvements to animal enclosure and enrichment, support when needed to seize primates kept as pets and providing veterinary care for their animals, including hyenas and primates
-
In partnership with The Department of Parks and Wildlife, rehabilitating and releasing three Red Patas – this is where mine and Eva’s vision for the future became clear

In 2022, I completed my veterinary nursing degree in the Netherlands. Following different internships during my studies and working in a small animal practice for half a year, I yearned for a new adventure aboard. This pursuit led me to The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust, a NGO in The Gambia, where I crossed paths with Emily.
With a head full of knowledge fresh from the textbooks but minimal practical experience, I plunged into the deep water. From small animals to equines and even exotic animals like a crocodile, ostrich, hyenas and the 'red patas' monkeys. Working together with diverse professionals including local staff, veterinarians, vet nurses, and others, I soaked up knowledge and honed my skills over two enriching years. Now, I'm ready to take the next leap forward.
As a child, I dreamed of being a "monkey savior," though I soon learned ‘apparently’ that wasn't a viable career path. Becoming a vet nurse was the next best thing, and still very happy with this choice. But little did I know that meeting Emily in The Gambia would pave the way for me to realize this. I had the incredible opportunity to care for, prepare, live with, and ultimately release three red patas monkeys ‘back’ into the wild.
My passion for African nature and wildlife was already undeniable. Moreover, working in such a remarkable environment, meeting the best colleague imaginable, and fulfilling a childhood aspiration made it crystal clear: this is my calling! This is worth fighting for. Luckily, that's exactly what Emily thought as well.

Muhammed Baldeh
Project Manager
Hi, I’m Muhammed Baldeh, a passionate advocate for animal welfare and conservation. Growing up in rural Gambia, I developed a deep sense of empathy and responsibility toward animals, which has shaped my career and life’s mission.
My upbringing also gave me a profound understanding of the needs and struggles faced by communities, particularly farmers, and the challenges of coexisting with the surrounding wildlife.

At the age of 6, I began volunteering with the Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust, where my love for animal care first took root. After studying Animal Health and Production, I served as Senior Veterinary Auxiliary for four years at the same organization, leading community engagement and educational initiatives. This experience gave me the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of both animals (also wildlife) and people.

Later, I became Head of Animal Care and Management at My-Farm Africa Startup, where I continued to develop my skills in leadership and animal welfare. Seeking to broaden my horizons, I moved to the UK and now work at Chasemore Farm Thoroughbred Stud, caring for thoroughbred horses with dedication and precision.

Today, as Project Manager for The Gambia Wildlife Foundation, I work to protect The Gambia’s wildlife and habitats. By combining experience, leadership, and passion, I aim to foster community engagement, education, and impactful solutions to ensure a thriving biodiversity for generations to come.
